Happy-Go-Lucky

I wish I was more…Happy Go Lucky I mean!
My Happy-Go-Lucky layer Cake offering, "Big Stars"
Perhaps it's because I do get a bit caught up in the worries and cares of life that I so LOVE this cheerful new collection by Bonnie and Camille for Moda fabrics! Every new Bonnie and Camille range is anticipated with excitement, and I rarely get to keep even a Charm Pack for myself. This time I ordered all the pre-cuts + a selection of the fabrics + a repeat of the pre-cuts (including the new honey combs). So I have made two quilts - one from a layer cake and the other from two charm packs .

Up down side to side quilting and navy ticking back.
I used my favourite easy (to me) up down side to side machine quilting on this one. I really do love the texture (and speed) of this style. You can see the backing is a classic navy ticking which went very well with the informal reds and retro colours and patterns of the fabrics. Then I bound it with a large scale floral from the previous Marmalade collection. This is possibly my favourite Bonnie and Camille fabric ever. Orange is my favourite colour. And I like the unexpected effect of the large print as a binding too. I'm reluctant to sell this quilt….
Yum!
Now here is the little Quilty. It was unbelievably difficult to photograph this little one in the usual veranda position this time. The weather has been very difficult, grey and wet, but I managed to get in two quick shots and here they are.
Happy-Go-Lucky Quilty for Sale.
It's Amy Butler on the back - a lovely piece I've been saving in my stash for just the right project, and this seemed to be it. If you like the navy ticking binding, it's in my Etsy shop. (I will be listing the Quilty for sale, just haven't got around to it yet.)
These are the Happy-Go-Lucky fabrics just landed in the shop today. They are online in the eBay store along with any other  Bonnie and Camille fabrics ASAP too.
One of the reasons I love them so much is that you can keep on building a colour palette from them adding more and more bits from each collection, as well as fabrics from other ranges and you get a lovely happy bundle to make a quilt with - like this one.

Why don't you pop over to Bonnie's  and Camille's blogs to have a look at the absolutely fabulous patterns, and quilts they've made with all the different fabric groups. Inspiring!
Thanks for reading :)
Ann.

Moda Fabric Sale!!

Yes, it's that time of the month again - SALE time online!! And it's Moda fabric, excluding pre-cuts, at 23% off, finishing Wednesday 25th April. So shop the Quiltopia!Design online store for your favourite Moda pieces….Don't wait too long or someone else will snaffle your watched item from right under your nose! Happens all the time...

The ever popular Grunge basics by Basic Grey
Custom Bundle selected online.
This sale follows hard on the heels of our Bali Batik Sale. I decided to split the sale, because it's just getting too hectic and difficult to keep up with the full store sale, all by myself.
You could make a Batik quilt like the one I made earlier. I actually had a disaster with that quilt. When I washed it, just one of the brown Batiks ran! I tried to rectify it, and after spending lots of time and money on solutions, it's finally ended up on my daughter's bed, rather than my sister's. But that's another story…
Have a lovely day,
Ann.

Happy Easter

Happy Easter!
Wishing everyone a very happy, relaxing and fun Easter break and long weekend.
I hope you get lots done with family, friends and fabric!
We had chocolate eggs this morning, a very nice bacon, bagel and cream cheese breckie and then we went for a drive down to the coast. We took the car to a car wash - long overdue - and had a little Sunday drive along the beach roads. Very nice.
Now my daughter is vacuuming the inside of the car and then we're going to settle into some comedy DVDs. I'm looking forward to a cup of tea and a little hand quilting.
If you really can't pass a weekend without browsing at fabrics online, you could always stop by the Quiltopia!Design store and pick up something nice with a 10% discount. This time, specially for Easter, I've included my little handmade Quilty quilts in the sale too!
Have a lovely evening,
Ann.
P.S.  FYI Shop opening times this weekend are Saturday and Monday 10:30 AM - 2:30 PM. Closed Sunday & Friday.

What's new in Quiltopia

First post of 2013 and its already Easter!
The last couple of weeks/months have been incredibly busy for me here in Quiltopia.
New fabrics arrived. I love the drama of the new Colourful Oriental from David Textiles - just 3 incredible fabrics based on Fabrice de Villeneuve painterly designs of fans, parasols and lanterns.
The other favorite is Illustrations Ink, Bento Box - very kawaii with prawns, sushi and all things Japanese food!
On the sewing front, I finished a quilt top made from an older Oh My! Jelly Roll, Moda grey cross weave and a stunning Sweet Jane pattern called Grandma Mary's Five Patch. I first saw these patterns ( or quilts made from them) on Pinterest and Flickr. And now I have them in stock! *yay*
That Oh My! fabric came up beautifully against the grey cross weave... If you are a liker of my Facebook page, you had the chance to win a charm pack and help me decide on the background fabric too.
The biggest news is that I am getting a new website and blog soon, and I'm a little bit excited about that.
Happy Easter!
Ann

Cherry Christmas Give Away Winner!

We have a winner for the two Aneela Hoey Cherry Christmas Charm Packs give away!
Kelly Gleeson commented, As much as I am loving the yellow - I would play it safe and stay with the parchment!
The draw was done the old fashioned way, so we could include all entries from Facebook, Blog and Instagram.
Thank you and congratulations Kelly!

The ex-English teacher in me couldn't help liking a few of the comments especially and Lindi, Sonia and Chris will all be receiving a fat quarter from the Cherry Christmas range too.

Lindi Jarman: I'd go parchment. It has a softer, less demanding look.

Sonia Solly: Yellow (gold) to represent 'the golden thread' which is a spontaneous
form of prayer

Christine Baldry: Parchment - however Ann it wouldn't matter what you use, your quilts

always look stunning! xxx (Thanks Chris!)

And here's Dolly, Quiltopia's masthead kitty, giving the okay to parchment quilting thread on the Prayer Flag quilt.
I little insight into Quiltopia studio too ;)

The favourite thread was Parchment with 27 votes, Yellow with 20 and both with 9.
I have to admit I'm secretly glad. I started off preferring the yellow, then decided I liked the parchment, hoping it would win because I'd decided to do the quilting in the winning colour. I think Lindi's comment sums it up for me…although Kelly's is pretty relevant too!
Thank you so much for participating  and helping me out. Now I've done one, a give away is not as scary as I thought it would be and I'll be doing a lot more in 2013.
Till next time,
Ann.
